Sevastopol is rich in sights. First of all - Nakhimova square, it is a central area of the city. City triumphs always pass here. Sevastopol habitants and guests of the city come here to admire a Great roadstead from the Count Pier, to listen to bells' striking.
A Count Pier is a front mooring berth of Sevastopol, and it is also an architectural monument. At first it was an ordinary wooden boat moorage, and in 1787, when empress Ekaterina II has arrived, a wide stone stair was built there. A Count Pier got its present-day appearance only in 1843. Then it was adorned with two marble lions and ancient statues.
A Sea Front is a favourite resting-place of Sevastopol citizens. The foundation of this park was in the area of enormous (more than 450 meters long) Nikolaevskiy fort, which was blown up by Frenches after the capture of the South side of city. And the Sevastopol Bay is included in number of the best in the world. Pavlovskiy ness with a monument to the lost sea-folk of destroyer "Free" is opposite a pier. This ship came for help to the defenders of besieged city.
A Monument to ships flooded in 1854-1855 is of concern for Sevastopol guests. These ships has blocked up a passage into a bay to the hostile ships. A monument was constructed in 1905, in honour of 50-years anniversary of Sevastopol defence. A monument was set on an artificial ait made of granite, in 10 meters from an embankment. On a retaining wall, opposite the monument, there are two anchors from the flooded courts.
The museums of Sevastopol are no less interesting for tourists. The military-historical museum of fleet has 130-years history. It is like a treasure-house of battle relicts, it has over 30 thousand exhibits. On a main facade there is a famous Sevastopol sign: christcross and number 349, meaning the amount of days of defensive. On each side there are marine cast-iron armature, showing nasal and forage parts of age-old ships, cannons, draped with bronze standards.
The National Preserve of "Tauric Chersonesos" was burned and blasted by nomads at the end of XIV age. It was laying in ruins for a few centuries. The monuments of North Black Sea region became the main objects of excavations and descriptions from 1827 only. Basic part of preserve is an archaeological museum,
located on territory of Chersonesos ancient settlement, saint Vladimir's Monastery.
Akvarium-museum in Sevastopol is one of the eldest aquariums in the world and the unique marine aquarium in Ukraine. It is located in the Institute of biology of south seas of Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences. More than 180 animal species are presented here.
